Zaver Rathod, 35, killed the reptile after it took a chunk out of one of his friends.
Egged on by friends, the farm laborer, who hails from the eastern state of Gujurat, ate the snake raw for 100 rupees (currently the equivalent of $2.14). He was soon rushed to the hospital complaining of severe nausea and vomiting.
Luckily for Zaver, doctors were able to remove the contents of his stomach before the snake's poison reached his bloodstream, which would have killed him.
Plucky Zaver, whom doctors believe will make a full recovery, left the hospital to a horde of waiting media. Officials are yet to confirm what kind of snake he devoured -- other than to say it is highly poisonous and that he's lucky to be alive.
Do you think this is one of those "It sounded like a good idea at the time"-things? How could eating a poisonous snake sound like a good idea? Regardless, Zaver, we salute you, reigning king of the sucker bet.
