Unique Date Ideas

10. Comedy Club on Amateur Night
This night could go one of two ways, you could stumble upon a genious new comedian or you could end up cringing the whole night at the disaster that is “everyone thinks they are funny”. Either way it will be a bonding experience.

9. Meteor Shower, Full Moon or Star Gazing
Check out your desktop calendar for little circles that signal a full moon is coming or check out http://www.imo.net/calendar for a list of upcoming meteor showers.  If nothing MIND BLOWING is on the horizon, grab your ipod to share, some snacks and a thermos of vino or hot chocolate and go to a local park or lifeguard tower on the beach.  Major romance points.
8. Horror Movie Marathon
This date can only work if you are both brave, ok maybe not brave but you can’t be a total wuss.  I say steer clear of gross bloody gore and go for old classics that scared you as a child…think Freddy, Jason and Norman Bates.  Load up on popcorn (Kettle and Regular) and tons of candy.  Blanket a must if one of you needs to cover your eyes.

7.  Local Wine Shop for Wine Tasting
You don’t have to live in or near wine country to enjoy the pleasures of wine tasting.  A lot of wine shops offer specialized wine tasting nights, look them up in your area and usually if you join the mailing list there are freebee wine nights.  Also local restaurants with great wine lists often do wine pairing nights for a flat fee per person and they pair 3-5 wines with food. Tip: Mirror check for purple teeth!
6.  Take a Cooking Class
Sign up for any cooking class you can, it doubles as dinner.  Even if you are a bad cook the fun interactive night of burning curry together most likely will equal a lot of laughs.  Try a type of food that is a little out of your comfort zone, anyone can master chicken with veggies.    Asian, Indian, Vegetarian, Sushi or Mediterranean!

5.  Batting Cages
Nothing like a little friendly competition to see what your date is made of.  Plus everyone looks cute in those plastic helmets.  Bring quarters and play video games after, follow up the night with great microbrews at a nearby pub.
4.  Karaoke
IF YOU ARE BRAVE.  This night often involves lots of liquid courage so maybe not the best idea for a first date.   Go to a bar where nobody knows your name and everybody has to get up and sing.  This date spot is really fun for group or double dates too!

3. The Zoo
Day date!  Walking around on a warm day, eating soft pretzels, drinking warm sodas and looking at our furry and slithery friends.   Find a bench to relax and talk or the dark snake den to steal some kisses.  If you are like me you might want to call ahead and avoid days when there are massive field trips.  Another option would be Sea World (if you live near one)
2. Local Fair, Circus or Carnival
This date might take a little research, that’s why it’s a top 2!  Lots of fun new things to see, games and rides and if you found the circus, a little laugh at the bearded lady.  This date will stand out because you have no idea what you will encounter with CarniFolks.  If you can’t find one in your area, also look up farmers markets and the elusive Drive-In-Movie.

1. Water park
I am putting this as number one because of selfish reasons.  One of the best dates I ever went on was to a local water park called Raging Waters.  The day was hot and sunny, and we packed the cooler with yummy grown up food and some adult beverages (water park food mostly consists of ice cream sandwiches, corn dogs and soda).  Spend the whole day acting like kids, splashing around, making trips to the car for refreshments and the day after tan is a huge bonus!
